International BYB (build your
business) Tip #3
Be prepared to service potential international
customers/clients... identify an experienced international
attorney and find a mortgage company that has staff fluent in
foreign languages. Try to research and keep up on the special

Nathan Booth of Alexandria, VA passed away on June
26. One of the
nation’s first CIPS Designees/Instructors, he made his
mark as a real estate industry leader, advocate and mentor.
Nathan played an instrumental role in developing
CAR’s international efforts. He taught the first CIPS course held in CT in
2000 along with numerous subsequent CIPS/SRES designation
courses and the TRC course. His kind spirit and willingness to share his
boundless knowledge, experience and enthusiasm left an
impression on anyone who crossed his
path.
After 20 years in
the Army, receiving his law degree and practicing with a small
firm for a few years, he developed an interest in real estate
and in what his wife called "his true passion"...teaching. For
over 20 years, he taught classes for real estate professionals,
advocated for certification programs/continuing education and
served on numerous committees focusing on international real
estate and fair housing. Nathan also held memberships in many
international real estate associations including
Poland,
Russia,
Bahamas and
CEREAN.
"Nathan was in a class by himself," said Christine
M. Todd, Northern Virginia Association of REALTORS® Chief
Executive Officer.
"He loved his students, his profession and the entire
REALTOR® family that he served so
well."
Nathan will be missed by countless friends/colleagues and
the REALTOR® organization has suffered a great loss in his
passing. Our
condolences go out to his wife and entire family. Memorial donations may
be made to the Booth
Foundation or another charitable
organization. |

America...Leave America at Home |

(Reprinted

Report)
Ask most any American and
they'll say they want to respect the customs of the country they
visit, but according to a survey by travel website Vayama, over half of travelers said they
typically stick to U.S. customs when traveling abroad and nearly
half said they did something when traveling outside the U.S.
that they later learned was inappropriate behavior in that
country. While
embarrassing enough for the average person, REALTORS®
traveling abroad to pursue business should be particularly
careful as bad etiquette can mean lost business. Vayama's etiquette
page offers quick tips for 50 countries on food and
drink, gift giving, conversation, dress and
more. |
| The ABC's of
International Acronyms |
|
In a 2006 international survey
conducted by CAR, 93% of members responding were not familiar
with the acronym "TRC".
TRC stands for Transnational
Referral Certification.
This certification prepares real estate professionals to
make and receive compensated referrals using the transnational
referral system developed by the International Consortium of
Real Estate Associations (ICREA). There are 2 parts to this
program: Part 1
focuses on the skills needed for making or receiving referrals
and Part 2 focuses on the procedures involved in using the
Transnational Referral System. Students will learn how to integrate
international referrals, resulting in increased income, into
their business plans.
