The short explanation of this alert was:

Dear Idaho Association of REALTORS® Member:

The Idaho Legislature is currently considering House Bill 677 which will create a system of collecting impact fees for schools - to the tune of $5000 on a 2000 square foot house.  The IAR strongly opposes this legislation, and is requesting that you contact your legislators and let them know you oppose the legislation as well.  Please read the letter below and click send to contact your legislators.

HB 677 would allow school districts to impose an impact fee without a vote of the people, and without having to say what they are going to spend it on.  There is no direct tie to the needs of the school district in the bill.  Because the money would be used to pay for existing problems, there is no direct benefit to the purchaser of the property - in effect this is simply a new tax on residential construction to provide an additional revenue stream for school districts.  This bill would provide no property tax relief to taxpayers - in fact, because it drives up assessed values it will likely cause a tax increase.

The legislation is fraught with problems.  Please click below to ask your legislators to oppose HB 677.
